Robert R (Bob) Allen, BSc, MBA
Bob is President and a member of the Board of Shaman Power Corporation.
Following graduation with specialization in mathematics and computer science, Bob initially worked in information systems at CIL in Montreal then at Ontario Hydro in Toronto. His many years at Hydro included work in financial planning, comptrollership, operations and international and domestic business development. His role there included financial proposals and contract negotiation in many locations globally. He was Hydro’s first designated Director on a new Canadian entrepreneurial enterprise funded largely by Hydro.
After leaving Ontario Hydro, Bob established a successful consulting business specializing in the energy sector and business planning. His client base included private and government organizations in Toronto, Montreal, Illinois and New Jersey and his work was in those locations as well as Russia and Eastern Europe.
Bob served as a Director then Chairman of Hepcoe Credit Union (now Meridian C.U.) for many years. It is now one of the largest in Canada.
Bob was a founding member of Shaman Power which acquired one hydroelectric plant and subsequently built two more, one which was sold. He is a long term member of the Board of the Ontario Waterpower Association and has served as Treasurer most of that time.
Bob is a Canadian citizen speaks English and intermediate French.
Donald E. Anderson
Donald E. Anderson is the Chairman of Board, Shaman Power Corporation. As well, Don holds directorships in several private sector technical companies and is a Board Member of Trent Rapids Power.
During his long and illustrious career at Ontario Hydro, Don was Vice-President (Design and Construction), General Manager of Ontario Hydro Nuclear, and Director of Ontario Hydro International.
For many years he consistently held a high profile in the nuclear industry, culminating in his receipt of the Ian Mcrae medal from Canadian Nuclear Association (1996) and the 1997 Engineering Medal from the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
Don graduated in Engineering Physics at the University of Toronto, pursued graduate studies at the University of Manchester and holds a Certificate from The Banff School of Advanced Management.
As a Consultant on Utility Operations and Investment, Don keeps in touch with the power industry in Canada, the United Kingdom and in several countries across the world.
Don brings to Shaman his expertise in the management of power utilities, project design and construction, as well as in strategic planning.
Don is a Canadian citizen. He and his family live in Oakville, Ontario.
Anthony F. (Tony) Baldanza, BA LLB
Tony is a partner in the Toronto office of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP, an international law firm, and a member of the Board of Shaman Power Corporation. Tony practices general business law, providing advice and assistance in relation to a wide range of matters including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate reorganizations, supply and distribution arrangements and general corporate/commercial matters. He has special expertise in the areas of competition law and foreign investment law and has served as the Chair of the Mergers Committee of the Canadian Bar Association Section on Competition Law, and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Foreign Investment Review Committee of the same section. Tony is a Canadian citizen. He and his family reside in Toronto, Ontario.
Fred Benzaquen, BASc, PEng.
Fred is a member of the Board of Directors of Shaman Power Corporation.
Fred is well known in the power industry in Ontario thanks to his long career at Ontario Hydro, and more recently thanks to his successful engineering consulting business which he has managed since 1994.
Following graduation from the University of Toronto, Fred joined Ontario Hydro where he spent a total of 26 years, his time almost evenly split between the planning and the operating functions of the Corporation. He retired at the end of 1993 as Manager of River and Reservoir Utilization, a position which gave him front-row insight into the operation of the Province’s main hydroelectric resources.
During his time at Ontario Hydro, Fred was appointed Member for Ontario on the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board – an interprovincial committee - as well as Delegate for Canada on the International Joint Commission, an international body which oversees the use of our boundary waters with the United States.
Since leaving Ontario Hydro, Fred has managed a consulting business in Richmond Hill. He has done work for the United Nations, for the City of Toronto, and for a provincial power retailer. Most recently, Fred was hired on contract by the Ontario Power Authority, with specific responsibility for providing the waterpower input to the first Integrated Power System Plan for the Province of Ontario.
Fred’s early schooling took place in Morocco and France. His fluency in French and Spanish has earned him the position of French language spokesman for the Power Authority, and you may occasionally hear his voice on the French language radio network of the CBC.
Fred is a Canadian citizen. He and his family reside in Ontario.
John D. Ferguson, BASc., P. Eng.
John is a member of the Board of Directors of the Shaman Power Corporation.
Following graduation from the University of Toronto in Civil Engineering and a brief flirtation with Business Administration, John joined the provincial highway organization, obtaining exposure to construction, planning, design, maintenance and municipal subsidy assistance in a variety of locations, over an 18-year period.
In 1980, John returned to his home town of Chatham as Road Superintendent for the County of Kent. He retired in 1998, during municipal amalgamation in the area.
John is a unilingual Canadian citizen.
Jerry Lepka, BSc, Electrical Engineering
Jerry is Vice-President Operations and a member of the Board of Shaman Power Corporation.
Following graduation from University of Manitoba with specialization in Electrical Engineering, Jerry joined Ontario Hydro in 1972. His initial Ontario Hydro career included work as Protection and Control Engineer at large high voltage transformer stations as well as thermal and nuclear generating stations. In 1981 Jerry joined Ontario Hydro International and spent a total of nine years with Volta River Authority in Ghana, West Africa, in various positions of increasing responsibility, including the position of Director of Power System. In 2000, he retired from Ontario Hydro as a Manager of Toronto District, responsible for operation and maintenance of the high voltage transformer stations in the city of Toronto.
After leaving Ontario Hydro, Jerry established a successful consulting business specializing in the electrical energy sector. His consulting services included work for Ontario Power Generation, investigation of Italian power system blackout for GRTN, utility management and maintenance practices teaching assignment in Jordan, and various contract assignments for Canadian Electricity Association Technologies Inc.
Jerry was a founding member of Shaman Power, which acquired one operational hydroelectric plant and subsequently built two other hydro-electric stations, one of which was recently sold.
Jerry is a Canadian citizen and speaks English, Czech and intermediate Russian.
Craig Robbins MA. Economics
Craig Robbins is the Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of Shaman Power Corporation.
Craig worked as an economist in the economics division and the treasury division of Ontario Hydro for i8 years. In the latter department, he provided advice and guidance to the pension fund and was responsible for various functions within the Treasury Group. These functions included: financing; management of the company’s foreign exchange position; managing its cash portfolio; and managing its banking relationships.
Since leaving Ontario Hydro, Craig has taken on a number of consulting assignments, primarily for small and medium sized companies. These assignments encompassed providing not only economic forecasts but also aiding companies to develop strategic plans and assisted them with financing and financial analysis. He also has taught cash management, project management courses and strategic planning for companies in the energy sector.
Craig is currently on the Board of Directors for Hydro One Brampton. He also chair of their Finance, Regulatory and Policy Committee of the Board.
Craig is very active in his community. He has served on the Governing Council for the Brampton Board of Trade and the Caledon Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a member of the Palgrave Rotary and serves on the executive.
Craig is a Canadian citizen. He and his family reside in Ontario.
Alastair has spent over 40 years in the power utility business with Ontario Hydro, OPG. He is currently Vice President - Operations of Gemini Power Corp. He has worked in all areas of Hydraulic Generation, Thermal Generation (Coal & Gas) and distributed Diesel Generation. His career has included roles as a technical specialist and as a senior manager of hydraulic generation in the areas of project development, operations and maintenance, water management, training, program planning, feasibility assessments and business development. Alastair's experience has included work with Canadian public, private and overseas utilities.
Alastair has a BSC Mech Eng is a Registered Professional Engineer APEO.
